I think it was the age of said mushies & mustard that was Thr main problem, I'm a big fan of whole grain mustard (which reminds me, must blog v good pie soon) and we use liquid stock which isn't usually too brown (would love to make my own but...). Will try fresh chestnut mushies next time - my mush of choice usually, the portobello's just happened to be on special. And I feel I should point out that I *can* divide things by 2, I just wasn't concentrating and forgot to. But app sounds ace, will look it up.

Hey Hilary! I used chestnut mushrooms and found it fine, I use the homemade stock mix these days (http://omnomnom.hannahnicklin.com/2012/04/15/homemade-stock-mix-bouillon/), which might take away from brownness a bit? Whiolegrain mustard makes all the difference for me in terms of texture and interestingness. Maybe make sure you're not using super reduced fat creme fraiche, too? Also, get the paprika recipe app, it's ace, can grab any online recipe details and save locally, and has an auto-scaling function which auto-divides everything or multiplies as you wish. :)

Tried this last week. Didn't get it quite right. I'm a big fan of mushrooms, but Alex isn't, so I was stupidly excited about this, but the age of the mushrooms (and the wholegrain mustard) made it all a bit brown, and feckin up halving the quantities didn't help either. Also used portobello mushrooms and I think next time I'd stick to common or garden button ones. Will try again - did I say I bloody love mushrooms?
